Terminal Illness affects the patient and his/her family deeply. Providing quality care and support for these patients is a social duty that is often ignored and forgotten. The “Hospice Egypt” project has long understood the importance of its duty to support as many terminally-ill patients as possible
Throughout the last five years, Hospice Egypt mobile services were provided to hundreds of patients. The Hospice Egypt team has visited the patients’ homes to provide all the support needed. They have witnessed the urgent needs of patients and realized that many patients are living alone, with no one to care for them. Sometimes they may not even have a home. Others have families that are drained by the demanding continuous care. They are in need of relief periods to recharge and be able to continue to support their loved ones. While mobile hospice is convenient for patients who want to spend their last days at home, other patients needed care around the clock. That is why the “Hospice Egypt” project extended the hospice service to include the stationary hospice, a place they can call home in their final days
Hospice Egypt stationary hospice will be the first of its kind in Egypt. The construction of the building is now finalized and currently being equipped and prepared to receive patients
Each room is designed to match the overall objective of providing care, comfort and preserving the dignity of terminally ill patients. The patient will find the following in every room
Home like: The rooms will not be hospital like but rather furnished to welcome the patients with a home-like feeling
Greenery: All beds are allocated in the room facing the window which overlooks greenery, to offer the patients a natural stress relieving view
Comfort: Adjustable beds and specific equipment to facilitate sitting up for eating, watching television, or having a conversation
Safety and privacy: Bathrooms are highly equipped with rails and safety measurements to allow privacy and security for the terminal patients
Furthermore, at Hospice Egypt stationary hospice the patient’s social, physical, psychological and spiritual preferences are respected. The multi-disciplinary team working there will possess the expertise and knowledge of care and companionship of terminally ill patients
The stationary hospice has been modeled with guidance from our scientific partners; the German Hospice and Palliative Care Association and the Bavarian Hospice and Palliative Care Association. The building is located at 47 km Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road near the International Medical Center. The opening of this building will be a milestone and will be a dream realized for every terminally ill patient living in Egypt and in need of a place to preserve their dignity and enhance their quality of life
Both Hospice Egypt mobile and stationary hospice services are provided completely free of charge to the patients and their families.
